EU Data Act is a regulation designed to improve access to and sharing of data in the digital economy. It makes data from devices and services more available and sets rules for its use, helping consumers and businesses innovate. The Data Act entered into force on 11 January 2024, and its main obligations will become applicable from 12 September 2025.
Its impact on us
BSH, as a manufacturer of connected home appliances and related services made available on the EU market and data holder of certain data, will comply with the requirements of the Data Act and provide access to readily available data as foreseen in the Data Act.
What is offered when accessing Data Act-relevant data?
Users in the EU with Home Connect-enabled appliances can access monitoring features for their devices. This means they can track events supported by the Home Connect API, such as state changes, program changes, errors, generated by their connected appliances. Additionally, users can access images captured by built-in cameras in their appliances.
How to get access to the Data Act-relevant data in real-time?
To get access to Data Act-relevant data in real-time, a Home Connect Developer Account and a Home Connect Account are required. As a user, you have to be located in the EU.
- Register a Developer Account on the Home Connect Developer Portal.
Please note: a Developer Account is not a Home Connect user account (which can be created via our Home Connect mobile app and which is necessary in addition to connect the respective appliance with your Home Connect Developer Account). - Fill out the registration form.
- If you are in the EU, you will be offered an additional option to mark an interest in our Data Act offering at the bottom of the form. By selecting this option, you will also have to agree to specific agreements - either the Home Connect EU Data Act User Agreement, or the Home Connect EU Data Act Third Party Agreement - for the provision of the data.
Please note: EU Data Act Agreement differs depending on the type of Developer Account you set up, whether it is an Individual/Open-Source account or a Corporate account. - Finish the process of setting up the Developer Account.
- You now have access to the main monitoring capabilities we offer and have documented in our Home Connect API Docs.
- If you want to get access to additional raw data generated by your appliance and falling under EU Data Act you can activate this later in the settings of your application.
- Open the My Account page on Home Connect Developer Portal (top right, person looking icon).
- Open the Account Details tab.

How to enable third-party recipients to access Data Act-relevant data in real-time?
If you want that third-party data recipients get access to the data of your connected product/related
service, the following steps apply:
- Check with the third-party service provider on how to use Home Connect integration with their product,
- Ensure their integration supports Data Act-related data streams.
- Link your Home Connect account and start using their product!
Please note: In this scenario you don’t need to set up Home Connect Developer Account. If you just want to use the service offered by a third party, which makes use of Data Act relevant data of your product/related service, it can be as simple as downloading their app and linking Home Connect account with their product.
How to get access to the Data Act-relevant historical data?
